College Admission Prep Camp Day Camp

Education Unlimited - College Admission Prep Camp Day Camp

CAPC Day Camp is a 10-day nonresidential program that provides Test Scholars SAT prep, personal statement writing and college counseling curriculum, similar to our residential College Admission Prep Camp but for students who would prefer a slightly less rigorous day camp option.

This is a special 'crash course' in SAT prep, focusing on ways to make a real difference in your SAT scores, improve your essay writing, and get some college counseling as well, all compacted into a well thought out two week program. For 2014 we have one of our most esteemed experts, Steven Wolkoff, serving as the program teacher. We like to call Steven the SAT tutor to the stars...or at least to their kids. Steven lives in LA where he tutors students in SAT prep for a living. He's been flown around the world by wealthy families to provide individualized tutoring to their kids. At our regular CAPC program Steven's students often see gains of 200 points and more. In addition to SAT prep instruction, Steven is experienced at providing college counseling for his client families, and also essay writing instruction.

This two week version of the program has a schedule that features:

• more than 30 hours of SAT instruction and practice tests

• more than 12 hours of essay writing/coaching

• several hours of college counseling

The instructor may modify the allocation of time for each component of the curriculum to some modest degree based upon student interest and needs, but there will be clost to 70 hours of total instructional time, probably a bit more.

Palo Alto - Stanford Area: This two-week program features a 9AM - 5PM schedule from Monday-Friday in Palo Alto in the San Francisco Bay Area. Students receive 30 hours of SAT prep and access to outstanding writing and counseling instruction. Typically offered within a few miles of the downtown Palo Alto/Stanford area.

Here is some more detailed information about the program curricluSAT Preparation College Admission Prep Camp is an opportunity to learn the skills needed for success on the SAT, including essay writing techniques, grammar skills, advanced math and critical reading. Our experienced instructors employ the exclusive and time-tested Test Scholars SAT curriculum, which familiarizes students with all aspects of the new SAT exam. Our focus is to provide students with the test taking strategies and reasoning skills, rather than training students to rely primarily on tricks. Test Scholars students have historically scored average increases of nearly 200 points!

College Admission Prep Camp is uniquely equipped to maximize SAT scores because our curriculum utilizes College Board materials. Rather than try to mimic the College Board’s questions, CAPC purchases all exams directly from the test maker. Students receive practice workbooks and exams, and a set of Test Scholars’ exclusive flash cards- 800 of the most important SAT vocabulary words, plus 250 math flash cards for review of important formulas and techniques.  The program culminates with a SAT tournament of champions.

Overall, campers receive 30 hours of supervised SAT prep.

Personal Statement The Personal Statement is a student’s chance to show that he/she is more than a test score or grade point average. It is a significant platform for demonstrating clarity, character and unquantifiable qualifications for college admittance. To this end, College Admission Prep Camp offers every student hours of one-on-one consulting with expert writing instructors during a daily block dedicated solely to honing each student’s work.

From the conception of an essay topic to the final revised piece, the writing program teaches students how to write the kind of essay that will present them in the best light during the college admission process. Students learn to express the self-awareness, imagination, and curiosity that will make them attractive candidates to selective colleges. By the end of the program, each student will have written about a meaningful personal topic that is ready, or nearly ready, for submission with his or her college application.

College Counseling Even at the most prestigious private high schools the ratio of students to counselors can exceed 100:1, offering minimal individual contact and attention. CAPC gives each participant direct access to some of the top guidance counselors in the country.

CAPC counselors help students pinpoint top quality schools that are best suited to their particular needs and interests.Students leave CAPC with a list of potential schools that have been reviewed and discussed individually with a CAPC counselor, advice from their counselor, and a college admission calendar that will help families avoid last minute scrambling and the possibility of missed deadlines.
